The Old Thameside Inn usually does a lovely Plum Porter from the Titanic Brewery probably the main reason I pop in there...especially this time of the year

I love the Japanese films...All the Kurosawa plus other stuff like Kwaidan and Tokyo Story etc

Cough - got a copy of "Ran" from there not long ago.
Kurosawa does Shakespeare.
Absolute masterpiece of storytelling.

I preferred the BFI bar when it was all mismatched furniture and they sold pints of sausage rolls.
There's a Carluccios round the back of the Tate Modern, should you want to check out the latest trends in 800 quid pushchairs.

When venturing over there I always start at the old thameside inn. Then venture westward from there. I've seen dustbins in there so kid friendly

I've still got a dog eared membership card or two in a drawer at home somewhere when BFI was still called NFT (National Film Theatre)
They changed it about 15 years ago or so
One of my favourite film noirs is "Night and The City" set in London

Tate Modern has a nice restaurant upstairs (downstairs more a cafe).
Great views too.

I lived in a cardboard box in the middle of the road and I went to see a film at the BFI

Euse,
We have a cat called Gilda - a film I have now seen about 20 times - that's how obsessed with film my wife is.
In all fairness, she does work in TV and did do a masters in film. So she's committed!
Nothing like watching a good film noir at the BFI.

Oi Oi,
Doggett's is just full of Yanks buying overly-priced fish and chips, sipping half a lager and lime, and thinking that they are getting the authentic London experience.
It has great views of the river, though.
Like Eusebiovic said, you have to disappear into the back streets of the South Bank to get the full experience. The developers have done an OK job on the riverfront - the place is at least somewhere you can now walk at night without getting mugged - but with that has come the chains. You'll get half-decent grub in many of them, so still worth a visit.
The best stuff is almost always tucked away.

Yep, love the BFI too. For a while, I must have been one of the few working-class folk wandering in there on a regular basis to use the Mediatheques. Quite a regular thing, now, which is great.
One of the best places in London. I was lucky enough to meet and marry a woman obsessed with film, so we're there a lot.

BFI is where I spend a lot of my time too...again did so since I was young and long before it was trendy.
Guess what? You can be working class and take a punt on a film with subtitles.
Who'd a thunk it eh?

South Bank
I used to stand on the SB because I was from the South Bank. It would have been too easy to support Chelsea or Wall like all my neighbours.
Masters Fish and Chips on Waterloo Road is still very reliable... that's all anybody is getting out of me! 😉

I was genuinely born not far from the South Bank - but we later moved to god's country on the east London/Essex borders and I grew up standing on the real South Bank.
Hence the name.

That's because the developers have wrecked most of the old gaffs.
You have to wander a bit further south for some of them now, and I wasn't sure that he would want to do that. The riverfront now looks great, but is generally a series of chains and tourist spots, granted.
Still got some decent places to eat and still got some great cultural hotspots. The galleries and the BFI are excellent.
